“A polished gem….different and unpredictable, this is the company to see.” That is what The New York Times said about James Sewell Ballet (JSB), a dance company founded in New York, but has called the Twin Cities home since 1992. JSB’s vision and work challenge the audience’s notion about, and pushes the physical limits of, traditional ballet…in other words, this is not your grandmother’s ballet.

JSB performs sold out shows around the country throughout its season, but Mom Culture has teamed up with The Southern Theater to create a performance exclusively for the Mom Culture community. The 45-minute dance performance will feature excerpts from its show “Balletworks TC/NYC Connections” at The Southern from February 24-27. The show features world premieres from 3 highly talented emerging choreographers: Afro-modern Hip-hop artist Kenna Sarge; eclectic James Sewell Ballet company member Chris Hannon; and, movement maverick Patrick Corbin.

• When you reserve tickets, you will reserve both for adults and children, but children will be free. This is to keep accurate count of how many total people are attending.

• Ticketing fee will apply only to adult tickets; kid tickets are free so no ticketing fee will be collected.

• Ticketing fee is $1.50/ticket for phone orders – call the Southern Theater Box Office at 612.340.1725 Tuesday-Saturday, 12-4pm. Fee is $2.50/ticket for online orders.

• No tickets will be sent. After you purchase tickets, your name will go on a guest list that will be used to check you in on the day of the event.

• It is suggested that you provide an email when you purchase tickets so you receive an email confirmation from the Southern Theater; if you do not provide an email, you will not receive confirmation of your purchase. (however, after you purchase your tickets, your name will be on a list at the door.)

• Seating is general admission/open seating; no reserved seats. Doors open at 10:30am (light refreshments until 11am); Performance begins at 11:00am.
