5 New Truths to Live By

Folk wisdom is quaint but, like cheap diapers, it doesn’t seem to hold water in the context of parenting:
“Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way”
Teaching this to the kids, especially young ones, might set them up for disappointment. For instance, my kids use all their might (sometimes in the form of a tantrum) to make a case about whey they need more cookies, yet despite exerting this great will I still say no.
“The Early Bird Gets the Worm”
Oh yeah? Well maybe the late birds get lobster after the early birds go to bed. I’ve got to stick up for the non-morning people–something I used to be pre-parenthood. By the way, since I now have no choice in the matter, will someone please send my kids a memo letting them know that “early” doesn’t mean pre-dawn?
